The Spaniard is the third new arrival of the summer to bolster Jesse Marsch's squad, following the £25m deal for Brenden Aaronson and the £10m signing of Rasmus Kristensen, both of Marsch's former club RB Salzburg.

Roca has agreed terms on a four-year contract, which will come into effect when the deal goes through on July 1, pending the usual international clearance.

A deep-lying midfielder who moved to Bayern Munich in October 2020 from Espanyol, Roca's time with the German giants yielded just 24 appearances, 15 of which came in the Bundesliga with six Champions League appearances and cup competitions accounting for the rest, as he struggled to break into a midfield boasting an abundance of world class talent.

LaLiga and Bundesliga experts have lauded the 25-year-old's technical ability and likened him to Manchester City star Rodri, albeit not yet the finished article.

He earned caps for Spain at Under 19 and Under 21 level, helping his country win the 2019 European Championship with the latter.

Roca scored in the semi-final against France and played 90 minutes in the 2-1 final victory over Germany, along with new Leeds United teammate Junior Firpo who helped sell the move to Elland Road to the midfielder.

At Espanyol he was seen as an exciting, established talent ahead of the move to Bayern, representing the Catalan club 121 times.

Leeds view Roca, who can play as a six or an eight, as part of the supporting cast for Kalvin Phillips in their midfield and not a direct replacement. Wth Manchester City believed to be preparing an offer for Leeds United's star man, the Whites will go back into the transfer market this summer to replace him if the need arises.

The Whites are still in the market for a centre forward and will also replace Raphinha should he leave for a Champions League club during this transfer window, although no offer for the Brazilian has been received yet.
