Leeds United defender Luke Ayling has issued a message of reassurance to the club’s fans and placed a demand on how his Whites must react to their barren recent run.

Leeds have dropped into the Premier League relegation zone for the first time this season following Sunday’s 3-2 defeat to visiting Fulham on a day in which basement battling sides Aston Villa and Leicester City both savoured victories.

Jesse Marsch’s Whites have not had one of them in the league since beating Chelsea on August 21 and the eight league games that followed the summer success against the Blues have yielded just two points via two draws and six defeats.

United are only ahead of bottom two sides Nottingham Forest and Wolves on goal difference but Ayling has tried to put United’s start to the season in perspective by comparing the current situation to the predicament the Whites were in at the back end of last term. The right-back has hailed the Leeds fan base for supporting the team through thick and thin and is demanding that his squad now bounce back to reward the club’s fans.

Asked if he had a message to the club’s supporters following Sunday’s latest defeat to Fulham, Ayling told post match media: "Stay calm. I know it's hard to say that but we are only 10-11 games into the season.

"We've been in a lot worse positions. Last year we were going into the last two games in the bottom three. There's still a long way to go so just stay calm and stay with us if they can. They turn out every game so we need to go out on that pitch and show them that we can do it."
