COLIN Cooney was let down by certain individuals as he had to take a depleted squad to face Leeds Sunday Premier outfit Hunslet Wellington in the final pre-season warm-up.
Resolute defending from Gavin Crossley and Danny Kirk kept the home side at bay for the majority of the first half, but a lapse in communication between Noel Bullock and Richard Walker gifted them the opening goal. Townhouse did get on level terms as the influential Michael Carroll sent over an inch-perfect delivery for the unmarked Lee Thrush to head home, but they found themselves 2-1 down at half-time after being caught out by a quick free-kick.
Lady luck was definitely not on the visitors' side during the second half when Hunslet went on to score five more goals without reply and were helped by controversial decisions and an unfortunate fumble.
Townhouse make the short journey down to Millshaw this Sunday when they take on South Leeds United in their first game of the season in Division One of the Leeds Combination League, 11am kick-off. All players need to inform Noel Bullock of their availability and they should meet at Hembrigg no later than 10am.
