With manager John Mawn away on holiday, secretary Chris Dalby stepped into the managerial hot seat and was without eight first team regulars. Keys started cautiously, but went ahead in the 20th minute, as Hugill headed home a superb cross from Garet
h Mead. They were then given a golden opportunity to extend their lead when a Swillington defender handled in the box, but their run of misfortune from the spot continued as Goodall's penalty was saved.
However, on 30 minutes they did make it 2-0 as good work from Jones sent Hugill clear and Keys' newest signing made no mistake, finishing calmly.
Swillington hit back to level, but in the second half Keys deservedly regained the lead, with Newton curling home a superb 25-yard free-kick into the top corner.
Swillington continued to cause problems, with debut keeper Wortley forced into action twice, but Keys were in no mood to surrender the lead this time and Makin almost brought the house down, running from just inside his own half, beating four Swillington players before unleashing a 25-yard screamer that rattled the upright.
Keys were rewarded, though, when a text book Makin corner found Mawn unmarked at the far post and the Keys captain rose like a salmon to make it 4-2. The hosts pulled a goal back, but this was a good performance from Keys whoseman of the match awards went to Cale Hugill and Ashley Jones. Tonight Keys have a final pre-season training session at Hembrigg, 6.30pm.
