WOODKIRK Valley FC under 7s were celebrating again at the weekend after they secured a third gala win in three weeks with an excellent success at Rothwell.
Woodkirk's A team started off with a win, but it turned out to be a tough group they were in and they were unlucky not to progress to the semi-finals with the goals scored going against them.

But Woodkirk B did make it through to the semis. They opened with two wins a loss and needed at least a draw in their last group game against Honley B to get through. They duly achieved this in a close contest and progressed thanks to a better goal score than Honley.

Pick of the group games was the second against Norristhorpe which saw Louis unleash a magical left foot volley into the top corner.

The semi-final opponents were Westend B and Woodkirk B were determined to make it to their first final. They dominated and the pressure finally paid off as they came through as 1-0 winners.

The final was then against the hosts Rothwell Juniors, who had earlier beaten Woodkirk B 2-0 in the group stages. Valley were out for revenge and, cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd, soon got into their stride. The football was end to end, but it was Woodkirk who struck first to go into the break one up.

The second half saw Rothwell fight back, but Woodkirk held on and sealed victory with a second goal. It was a well deserved win for the team of Harrison, Isaac, Ethan, Louis, Troy, Jake, Gregory and everybody associated with the U7s.
