GILDERSOME under 13s agonisingly missed out on the final of the Heavy Woollen League's Reporter Championship.
Their semi-final against Wrenthorpe went right down to the final ball, but it was their opponents who went through by the narrowest of margins - by just a single run.
Wrenthorpe went in first and made 96-6 from their 20 overs with Liam Smith (26 retired) top scoring and wickets for Sachin Patel (2-15), Ben Coult (1-10) and Joe Swann (1-19).
In reply, Gildersome looked on course as Swann made 16 at the top of the order then Liam Pearson hit 20 and Joe Bedford 26 before retiring.
But wickets went down and it was all about the final over then the final delivery when Wrenthorpe held their nerve, Gildersome finishing just short on 95-8.
However, Wrenthorpe were beaten by seven runs in the final when they took on Wakefield Thornes who had defeated New Farnley in their semi.
The Gildersome squad for the finals day was: Sachin Patel (captain), Joe Bedford (W/kpr), Ben Coult, Liam Pearson, Daniel Norton, Shaun Norton, Thomas Ramsden, Joe Swan, Luke Baylis, Robert Mallender, Gareth Mattheson, Billy Hepworth, Josh Suggitt, Nathan Collins.
