ANXIOUS to ensure his team had some important match fitness before the start of the new season Drighlington ARL under 16s' new coach Andy Brearley arranged a friendly against Oulton.
With several players making their debut the match began with both sides looking disjointed. Drig's hard work on the training pitch began to pay dividends, however, and they started to put together well executed passing movements. Tries were scored by Jordan Bennetton, Joe Bownass, Oliver Blake, Jordan Turner and Dan Birke with Tom Vertigans kicking five goals. Oulton never gave in and eventually scored eight points. The game gave coach Brearley a good chance to take stock of his squad and with some fine tuning and more hard work at training the future looks good for this Drig side.
