A north Leeds Conservative councillor has paid tribute to his community's spirit, as he prepares to stand down after more than three decades of service.

Councillor Peter Harrand was first elected in 1990 to represent the city's 'North' ward, which covered Alwoodley and Harewood village.

After losing the seat to the Liberal Democrats in 1996, he went on to serve the Roundhay ward for six years from 1998, before returning to Alwoodley to become councillor there again in 2004.
