Man arrested for rape and kidnap of woman near Leeds city centre

Detectives have arrested a man after a woman was raped on a street near to Leeds city centre.

The 24-year-old victim was attacked in the early hours of Saturday, November 30, on a street off Woodhouse Lane near to the Leeds University campus.

West Yorkshire Police said this morning (Wednesday) that a 22-year-old man was being questioned on suspicion of rape and kidnap.

A spokesman for the force said: "A man has been arrested by detectives investigating a serious sexual assault on a woman in Leeds.

"The 22-year-old man was arrested in the Harehills area this morning (Wednesday) on suspicion of rape and kidnap in relation to an incident involving a 24-year-old woman in Woodhouse Lane in the early hours of Saturday, November 30."

The man remained in custody on Wednesday morning and enquiries are ongoing.
