PATIENTS at Leeds General Infirmary will have their stays made more pleasant thanks to former Mayor of Morley Joyce Sanders.
Coun Sanders (MBI, Churwell), helped by her ward colleague coun Wenda Whitehead, recently went on a shopping spree, spending over £1,000 on toys, fans, televisions, books and toiletries which they then delivered to Wards 36 and 48.

Coun Sanders said: "It was a pleasure to supply these two wards with goods that will make a difference.

"The nursing staff were over the moon."

The money was raised through a succession of events held during Coun Sanders's year as mayor which ended in May.

When the time came to chose which charity to support during her year in office, Coun Sanders immediately thought of LGI where her husband Ken had spent almost a year.

She wrote to LGI and they sent her a big list of the things the different wards needed, from wheelchairs and television brackets to talking books, large type books and DVD players and games.

The items were distributed between a new ward for the over 65s and a children's ward.
